As spring fully blooms this April, we’re seeing more and more people brightening their homes with fresh flowers – and we love it! At Quiggs Florist, we put great care into every bouquet, but once those blooms leave our shop, there are a few simple things you can do to make them last as long as possible.

So whether you’ve just received a surprise bouquet or treated yourself to some fresh flowers (and why not?), here are our top tips for keeping your flowers looking fabulous for longer.

1. Trim the Stems

Always give your stems a trim before placing them in a vase – about 2–3 cm at a 45° angle. This helps them absorb more water and prevents the ends from sitting flat against the vase, which can block hydration.

2. Fresh Water is Key

Change the water every 2–3 days and clean the vase with warm, soapy water before refilling. Flowers don’t like dirty water – keeping it fresh helps prevent bacteria which shortens their lifespan.

3. Avoid Direct Sunlight and Heat

Place your bouquet in a cool area away from direct sunlight, radiators, or draughts. While they need light, too much heat will speed up wilting.

4. Remove Any Drooping Blooms

If a flower starts to wilt, remove it from the arrangement. This stops any bacteria from spreading to the healthy stems and keeps your bouquet looking beautiful.

5. Use the Flower Food

Don’t toss the little sachet! Flower food helps nourish your blooms and slows the growth of bacteria in the water. If you’ve run out, a pinch of sugar and a drop of bleach can act as a DIY alternative.

Bring Joy That Lasts

A bouquet from Quiggs Florist is more than just flowers – it’s a gesture, a memory, and a moment of beauty. With these care tips, you’ll enjoy every petal that bit longer.
